Wearing a mask is demonstrated to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

1. Droplets are deadly. Wearing a mask significantly reduces your chances of breathing in airborne droplets and prevents you from getting sick. Wearing a mask also stops you from touching your mouth, nose and eyes, the openings through which a virus  enters your bloodstream and makes you sick. The N95 on a mask stands for two things: N means it is not resistant to oil and 95 is a safety designation meaning the mask blocks at least 95% of very small  particles(0.3 micron).

2. It's you. You don't just get a virus; you also give it. While wearing a mask is important for your own safety, it’s just as important for people around you. You could have COVID-19 for 14 days before ever knowing it, spreading the virus to others—so behave as if you already have the virus.

3. Get ready. COVID-19 is part of a large family of viruses, ranging from the common cold to the severe Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). The new COVID-19 strain was not discovered in humans before the end of 2019. Viruses spread and evolve, unfortunately bringing with them new pandemics. So be vigilant and be prepared. Make certain you have the protective gear you need and know how to use it when the time arrives.

4. Complying is critical. Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore are some of the most densely populated countries in the world and yet the virus is spreading significantly more slowly than in the US. This is because each of these countries has strong social norms for mask-wearing, early school closure, and strict quarantine. Wearing masks is demonstrated, on a large scale, to be effective in preventing virus spreading.

5. Sun is not a solution. Some viruses spread more slowly in warm weather. Plenty do not. There is a great deal we don't know about the transmissibility, severity, and nature of COVID-19. So for now wear your mask even when it is sunny.
